Uyare is one of the best Indian films. Breaking the orthodox belief of male superstar as lead actor, putting female every time to a secondary position, Uyare tells the story of a girl who wishes to fly. However, a set of personal crises forms a barrier in front of her, which she with her strong will power and dedication, overcomes.
2. KUMBALANGI NIGHTS
Kumbalangi Nights is another gem. It has an amazing cast, each performance applaudable. It tells the story of four brothers, who are miffed at each other, and how their relationship becomes harmonious when they have to help one of their brothers Bobby, who is in love with Babymol.
3. 9 (Nine)
9 (Nine) is one of the fewest and finest sci-fi films in Mollywood. While a comet, from an unknown galaxy is predicted to pass, Albert, along with his son and research team, sets to the Himalayas, to study the comet. There Albert meets Eva, a lost girl, who is brought to home by him. How all the incidents trigger some strange events forms the rest of the plot.
Jallikattu is an artistic expression of human animality. It portrays the nature of homosapiens through an engaging series of events. The plot revolves around a group of villagers, who are in a run to catch and trap a bolted Buffalo from slaughtehouse.
Virus is another must watch of 2019. Based on the 2018 Nipah epidemic, which spread in Kerala, Virus accounts for the events in great detail and is a terrific watch. From technical to creative part, everything is perfect in this film. It is inspiring, truly heroic, and well made.
Moothon is a craft that truly appreciates cinema. Rather than aesthetic pleasure, it has focussed on raw making, giving the film a murky mood and tone. It is the story of Mulla, who sets out to Mumbai in search of his elder brother Akbar, who was picked on by his family for his sexuality and leaves his island.
7. ANDROID KUNJAPPAN VER 5.25
Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25 is an entertaining and different watch in Malayalam. It tells the story of Bhaskara, who is long in tooth and wants his son to be near him always. As his son moves to Russia for a job, he brings a robot to Bhaskara to take care of him. Bhaskara, who at first does not seem to be pleased with the idea, later forms an inseparable bond with the robot.
Helen is the best and by far the only known survival film in Mollywood. Starring talented Anna Ben, Helen spins around the life of titular character Helen, who is a BSc. Nursing graduate, attends IELTS class and works at Chicken Hub as a part-timer. One night she gets locked in the freezer room accidentally by her store manager. Unable to get out of it, Helen has to fight the freezing cold until dawn to be alive.
Unda is an authentic, unexaggerated film. It does not focus on filmy heroic substance and is concreted realistically. A unit of policemen, with SI Manikandhan as their lead, are sent to a Maoist prone area for election duty in North India. Out of enough ammunition, they must protect themselves without any weapon from any attack.
Ishq is a thrilling watch that raises a very important social issue. It follows the story of Sachi and Vasudha, whose relationship is put to test when two men try to mess with their night road trip. It makes you bite your nails and frustrated towards Shine Tom Chacko’s character. An impressive performance by him.
Ambili is a blissful tale of love and friendship. It centres around the story of Ambili, who is mentally challenged, but loved and adored by everyone, and at times taken for granted by few. The story follows his desire to marry his childhood love Tina and restore his friendship with Bobby, Tina’s brother.
